Reduce the risk

Research suggests that more than half of cancer cases diagnosed could have been prevented by changes in lifestyle.

Cancer Research UK's Reduce the Risk campaign highlights five important ways you can help lower your cancer risk:

  • Stop smoking – the best present you will ever give yourself.
  • Stay in shape – keep active with regular exercise and keep a healthy body weight.
  • Eat and drink healthily – limit alcohol and choose a balanced diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables.
  • Be Sun Smart – protect yourself in the sun and take care not to burn.
  • Look after number 1 – know your body and see your doctor about anything unusual.
