Little Star Awards
Meet some of our Little Stars from previous years
Ellen Page
Ellen, aged nine from Reading, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in 2003, when she was only four years old.
She was treated for the disease for more than two and a half years and is now in remission. Her doctors and all her family are delighted with her progress!
Ellen's mum Rachel says: "When Ellen was diagnosed, the family was in shock and disbelief. We felt panicked and worried about what might happen in the future but tried not to think about it too much.
"It will be three years in April since Ellen's last treatment. Physically she is healthy but emotionally it's taking a little longer to get back to normal.
"Ellen became something of an icon in her school when she was presented with her Little Star Award. It sparked major interest in the local media and she proudly stood up on the stage in front of everyone to receive her star."
Ellen was one of our Little Stars in 2005/6.
Ryan Taylor
Ryan, aged four from Southampton, was diagnosed with a form of kidney cancer in February 2006, just before his third birthday.
He had an operation and chemotherapy, and nearly a year since his treatment finished Ryan is now back to full health.
Mum Kerry says: "When Ryan was diagnosed, we were completely shocked, it was something that happens to other families, not to us. We had to take a deep breath and just get on with it.
"Ryan has come through all his treatment and even started school in September this year.
"Ryan is a typical four year old and we are shocked by how much energy he has. We recently went on our first family holiday abroad and, instead of having to worry about the risk of infection, Ryan was able to play in the pool and on the beach like any other holidaymaker!
"Ryan was presented with his Little Star Award at playschool which he thought was brilliant. All of his family were, and still are, very proud of him."
Ryan was one of our Little Stars in 2006/7.
