Quality of life
Being diagnosed with cancer and receiving treatment – or living with an inherited risk of cancer – can be a frightening and stressful experience, both for the patient and their family.
Cancer Research UK funds research into the psychosocial impact of cancer and how to improve patients' quality of life.
Here are just two examples of our work in this area:
- Improving communication between doctors and patients
We are funding research to help doctors talk to patients in a supportive and understanding way. Effective and sensitive communication helps to reduce stress and improve the quality of life for cancer patients.
We are currently working with Marie Curie Cancer Care and the Government on a national training strategy for doctors. - Cancer Information Nurses
We support a dedicated team of Cancer Information Nurses who provide a confidential service to patients, their friends and relatives, or anyone with concerns about cancer. We also have an award-winning patient information website, CancerHelp UK.
