Our income and expenditure
We provide more funding for cancer research than any other independent organisation in Europe. All of this money comes from our generous supporters.
Research is expensive, so we need to spend our money wisely. We have a rigorous selection and review process in place to help us plan and prioritise the work we fund.
Research usually takes at least three years to bear fruit, normally longer, so it's important that we commit to it long-term. This year, we have therefore improved the way our research grants are administered, to reflect the ongoing, sustained way we support projects.
This doesn't affect our ability to fund research, but it does change how we account for it. If you'd like to find out more about this policy change, you can read our Annual Report and Accounts.
We need everyone's help in raising the vital money that will allow us to continue to expand our research.
This year our total income from fundraising, investments and charitable activities grew by £44 million to almost £468 million. 80p out of every £1 we receive (excluding retail) is available to spend on beating cancer. Less than a penny is spent on our central running costs. The remainder is used to fund activities that generate further income.
